Public urged to guard against burglars as hot weather hits

We are reminding the public to stay vigilant to protect their homes and vehicles from opportunistic thieves following the recent spell of hot weather.

Burglars can use smaller windows, or those left ajar, to open a larger window and gain access to a property.

Just before 5.20am on Friday (15 August), we were told that an Audi A7 had been stolen from outside a property in Stafford.

Offenders gained access to the address through an open downstairs window and took the keys to the vehicle, which was parked on the driveway.

The offenders reversed the vehicle off the drive and headed towards the A51.

Our investigation is ongoing.

Beat the burglars

Follow our key prevention advice to help keep your home secure:

Ensure doors and windows are securely locked, even when at home

Keep gardens clear – so that would-be criminals cannot easily hide

Keep ground-floor windows closed and locked overnight. Do not leave them ajar

Keep valuables and keys out of sight from doors and windows
